Day 1: Flight to Djibouti and relax
Early morning you will fly from Addis Ababa to Djibouti. Upon arrival you will meet your tour guide & driver for the coming days. Djibouti requires a 2-3 hours quarantine, as fast testing will be done upon arrival. Once test results come in, you can relax in het hotel, or take a quick walk around the area, depending on the hotel you are staying. Enjoy the sun and the balmy sea breeze. Once the sun sets, Djibouti city starts to revive. You can either have dinner in the hotel or follow the local guide into the city and dicover fresh sea food!
Day 2: Discover the Grand & Petit Bara desert
After breakfast, around 8 am, you will start driving towards the South. The Southern part of the Republic of Djibouti is the most desert as well as mountainious part of the country. The reddish colors of the environment will give you the idea of being on a different planet!
After visiting the desert of Grand & Petit Bara, you will drive to Ali Sabieh, where you will have lunch and visit the town. Afterwards you will drive to Lac Abbeh. Once you arrive at Lac Abbeh, you will visit the so called ‘chimneys’ and the rest of the area until sunset. Enjoy a nice barbecue for dinner.
Day 3: Visit Lac Assal and Lac Abbeh
You will wake up with the rising sun, what an amazing way to start the day! Early morning you drive off to one of the small hotsprings around Lac Abbeh, where you can spot pink flamingos gathering around the lake.
After the morning spent in Lac Abbeh, you’ll drive back in the direction of Djibouti city. You’ll stop in the small city of Dikhil, where you’ll have lunch in La Palmeraie. After that you continue your journey to Lac Assal, the lowest point in Africa. En route, you enjoy breath-taking views on huge canions, part of the Danakil Depression. Lac Assal is also known as ‘the sea of honey’ and is located 153m below sea level. After visiting Lac Assal, you’ll drive to Tadjourah for dinner and overnight
Day 4: Visit around Lake Abbeh and flight back home
Enjoy a good breakfast in the morning and visit the town of Tadjourah. Afte that you will drive to Sable Blanc, where you can enjoy swimming and snorkeling around the beach. After lunch we drive back to Djibouti city for your airport transfer.
You can make this trip as a minimum of 2 people. You'll travel through the country in a comfortable 4x4 vehicle with one of our experienced driver/guides. If you are traveling as a family or group of 5+ we will use a minibus or a second 4x4 vehicle. If you are a group of 4 people you can also opt for a minibus if you'd prefer.
