Itinerary for the day
We pick you up from your preferred location in Addis early in the morning and drive 50km south out of the city to our first stop at Melka Kunture – an ancient archeological site with evidence of mankind’s earliest origins in Ethiopia 1,600,000 years ago. We visit the site’s museum where you will have the chance to dive into prehistoric Africa, view excavated tools from the stone age and learn about the region’s unique geology.
Our next stop is the must-see Adadi Maryam church which is a uniquely sculpted underground church dating to the 12th century. Like the rock churches of Lalibela, Adadi Maryam is a vibrant and important living shrine for Orthodox Ethiopians, where devotes frequently stay in isolation to pray during fasting season.
After spending some time at the Adidi Maryam church, we’ll drive to our third and final destination – Tiya . This famous site is UNESCO recognized due to its collection of remarkable, large graved stone tablets which researchers believe were tombstones for respected elders and community leaders centuries ago. In the late afternoon, we drive back to Addis where you’ll be invited for a traditional Ethiopian dinner before your final drop-off to your hotel or location of choice.
